Irfan Essa is a Principal Research Scientist and Research Director at Google DeepMind, as well as a Distinguished Professor of Computing at Georgia Tech. He was the Research Lead for the Wizard of Oz project for The Sphere, responsible for integrating state-of-the-art generative AI research. His work spans Computer Vision, AI, Machine Learning, Computer Graphics, and Social Computing. An IEEE Fellow with over 250 scholarly publications and multiple best paper awards, he previously held research positions at the MIT Media Lab and Disney Research. He holds a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
