Biography
Iason N. Paterakis is a California-based architect-engineer and media artist and a PhD student in Media Arts & Technology at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he is a member of transLAB under Professor Marcos Novak. He is currently a Student Researcher at Google DeepMind. His work focuses on biodata-driven immersive installations, AI-assisted media environments, and large-venue projection mapping, with a particular interest in translating biological signals, including brain organoid activity, into real-time audiovisual and spatial systems. His projects have been presented at ACM SIGGRAPH, ISEA, Ars Electronica, IEEE VISAP, Currents New Media, and other venues and research facilities across Asia, Europe, North America, and Antarctica. He also publishes in venues including the International Astronautical Congress and the International Journal of Architectural Computing, and is Co–Art Director, with Nefeli Manoudaki, of Brave New Work: AI and Tech in the Hands of Artists.
