45. Context Aware AI Assistant and AR Interface for Lunar Extravehicular Activity (EVA) Procedural Guidance
DescriptionGAIN-AI is a context-aware AI assistant and augmented reality heads-up display designed to support astronauts during lunar extravehicular activities. The system translates dense mission procedures into clear, step-by-step Goal-Task-Verification cards, helping crew members understand what to do, why it matters, and how to confirm successful completion. By grounding a large language model in live telemetry, suit status, task context, and fault-handling data, GAIN-AI can provide timely guidance that adapts to changing mission conditions. Rather than requiring astronauts to search through long procedural documents, the interface presents only the most relevant information at each moment, reducing cognitive load and improving situational awareness. The project explores how AI, augmented reality, and structured procedural design can work together to make complex spacewalk operations more understandable, resilient, and efficient, especially in high-stakes environments where attention, time, and safety are critical to mission success.
