Stress-Aware Panelization of Freeform Surfaces

DescriptionWe present a variational surface rationalization algorithm for creating structurally robust polyhedral approximations of freeform surfaces. Coupling a continuous panelization flow with differentiable shell stress analysis, our method lets structural performance guide the panel decomposition, achieving substantial stress reductions and producing more robust designs than minimizing stress under predetermined decompositions.
