Autodesk Vision Series | Not Just Big, Alive: The Animation of Kong in Monarch Season 2
DescriptionIn Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2, Rodeo FX’s animation team faced a massive challenge: make a 300-foot titan feel like a character. Kong had to emote and move with the weight of something real, not just big.
Animation Supervisor Christophe St-Pierre Paradis walks through the creative and technical process behind Kong's performance in Autodesk Maya, from the motion capture sessions that formed the foundation of his movement, to the animator-driven refinement that transformed raw mocap data into a creature performance with genuine scale and emotional presence. The talk covers locomotion at an impossible scale, fight choreography rooted in intention, the micro-movements that give a giant an inner life, and the pipeline realities of preserving a performance through fur, cloth, and simulation.
