Teaching OpenGL 4.5/4.6 in Introductory Computer Graphics: A Hidden Sweet Spot in Graphics API Education Accessibility

DescriptionIn this paper, I discuss my effort and philosophy on how to balance the tension of teaching beginners introductory computer graphics programming with the appropriate API. The solution I have found is by teaching OpenGL 4.5 as the minimum graphics API and and introducing Vulkan-like programming abstractions.
