Real-Time Shading BOF: Building a Community Around Shaders, Shading Languages, and Tech Artist Workflows
DescriptionThe Real-Time Shading BOF, with Ken Perlin and Marc Olano, aims to foster a vibrant, cross-disciplinary community of researchers, technical artists, hardware vendors, compiler developers, and practitioners working with shaders and shading languages. Building on the 2026 Shading Languages Symposium, this session will focus on practical pain points faced by technical artists in production environments—such as shader authoring, debugging, portability, performance, and integration with modern real-time pipelines—while welcoming insights from language designers and hardware experts. The BOF will serve as an informal forum for discussion, idea exchange, and networking, acting as a forerunner to the Real-Time Shading Symposium in 2027.
